Adult Ed & Childcare
Sometimes we help students by helping their parents
While doing research on community needs, MMCC learned many parents are unable to work on their High School Equivalency Certificates because they do not have childcare. In 2017, MMCC started an Adult Education Program on our campus in collaboration with Northern New Mexico College (NNMC). To better meet the needs of parents, with the help of a grant from the Northern New Mexico United Way, we have added quality childcare when adult education classes are held on our campus. Classes include English as a Second Language (ESL), Math 1 and 2, Math tutoring and Spanish ESL. We are also collaborating with the Rio Arriba Adult Literacy Program (RAALP) so tutors can do literacy coaching on our campus with childcare provided when the library is not open in the evenings.
